Cruiser Cross Country Runs Strong But Falls Short
The Cruisers ran a tough race against Foss, Renton, and Evergreen at Wright Park in Tacoma on Thursday. Overall, the boys placed second behind Renton. Junior Cameron Hatler won the boys race, earning a new personal record of 16:33 for a 5K. Other top ten placers were Max Van Eaton (5th) with 18:25, Christian Rodriguez (7th) with 18:38, Cole Pederson (8th) with 18:39, and Ryan Mueller (10th) with 20:14.
Eatonville was short a couple of girls at this race so they couldn't score as a team (schools must have at least five runners to score as a team in cross country), but some individuals still made a good showing. Junior Alexia Price came in second with a time of 22:36 for a 5K. Sophomore Adia Butcher came in 8th with a time of 26:26 and senior Emily Frey came in 13th with a time of 29:32. Unfortunately Jillian Ruiz has an iliotibial band injury and couldn't run. The Cruisers are hoping to have her healthy and injury-free for their next race at the Curtis Invitational at Chambers Bay on October 5th.
Other Eatonville Finishers:
11th place Shion Waki, 11th grade, 20:42
14th place Bryce Thirtyacre, 11th grade, 21:12
16th place Joseph Mykland, 10th grade, 21:25
