Cruiser Wrestlers Advance To Regionals

This past weekend, the Eatonville High School boys and girls wrestling teams competed in the sub-regional tournaments. Both teams did well and have wrestlers advancing to the district tournaments next week.

Eatonville High School hosted the boy’s sub-regional tournament with 7 other teams from the SPSL 2A Sound Division attending.

The Eatonville boys would take 2nd place overall falling to perennial wrestling powerhouse Orting, 437-311.5.

There were 3 Cruiser boys who stood on the top step of the podium at the end of the day. Picking up first place finishes were Austin Frink(106lb), Hunter Sonnenberg(152lb), and Julian Evans(195lb). All 3 would win every single one of their matches on the day by pins. All 3 will move on to the regionals next weekend at Orting High School.

The top 4 finishers from sub-regionals move on to the regionals. 5th place finishers will be alternates. Also moving on to the regionals for the boys will be Rodney Mcguire, Zack Smith, Ty Whitney, Mason Thornton, Cauy Wood, Matthew James, Tyler Statton, Mason Vasquez, Adam Jensen and Kaden Miller…..alternates are Philip Williams, Cobey Uhls, Dally Curtis, Giavanni Uhls, and CJ Caeton.

The girls team wrestled in the sub-regionals at Spanaway Lake High School along with 29 other schools. They would finish in 9th place overall.

The Cruisers had two of their girls finish in 1st place. In the 130lb weight class, Kayla Trujillo would pin Makayla Heymann of North Kitsap HS to take 1st. In the 135lb weight class, Sadie Schier would pin Eleana Ganitano of Bethel HS to capture 1st place also.

Both will move on to regionals next weekend at Decatur HS. Joining them at regionals by virtue of a 4th place finish is Jillian Ruiz.
