Cruiser Wrestlers Dominate At Sub-Regionals

After complete domination in the Evergreen 1A Dual League Championship meet last week which saw the Cruisers capture first place in every match they wrestled, the team continued their domination of the league by taking first place in the Sub-regional tournament held at Eatonville High School on Saturday.

This Sub-regional win for the Cruisers is believed to be the first win since 2009. It is also the first time in a very long time the team has won both the league dual-title and the Sub-regional title.

The Cruisers had ten wrestlers in the finals with 7 champions on the day. 15 Cruiser wrestlers will be advancing to the Regionals held next weekend at Hoquiam HS.

On the girl's side, they will be sending two girls on to the Regionals next weekend at Aberdeen HS.

“This is a hard-working group of young men who took care of business through all the adversity this year. I’m excited to see what we do at regionals and state! This is the first group of kids where every wrestler made it out to regionals. I am very proud to be their coach!”

I spoke with the girl's coaches, Wes Potter and Trinity Potter, and they both echoed the same sentiment about their girls.

“The girls wrestled hard and passionately this weekend. We are very proud of their work and dedication as it shows on and off the mat. So much adversity has been overcome with the Covid situations and they have done amazing. We are thankful for these girls and their love for each other and the sport.”
