Lady Cruiser Basketball Dominates Foster
The Lady Cruiser basketball team wasted no time this past Friday night in taking care of business. Behind a game high 17 points from Kya Stewart and Brooklynn Lucht’s double-double by halftime, the Cruisers sent the Foster Bulldogs home with their tails between their legs after a 49-11 defeat in the SPSL 2A League seeding tournament.

The Cruisers would quickly pull out to a 12 point lead by the end of the first quarter. Enjoying a 15-3 lead behind Stewart’s 9 points. Brooklynn Lucht would be very active on the boards early pulling down 5 rebounds to help with that lead.
Lucht’s shooting would heat up in the second quarter to go along with her aggressiveness on the glass. She would score 8 points and pull down 5 rebounds in the quarter to give her 10 points and 10 rebounds by halftime for her third double-double of the season. Stewart would also kick in 8 more points in the half to extend the Cruiser lead to 37-6.
The Cruiser defense wreaked havoc on the Bulldogs all night. Eatonville would shut out Foster in the 3rd quarter. Outscoring them 12-0 to stretch their lead to 40 points and initiate the running clock mercy rule.
In high school basketball, a running clock is utilized when a team is up by 40 points or more in the second half. The game clock shall run continuously for the remainder of the game except for an official’s time-out, a charged time-out, time between quarters, or the administration of free throws.
With that running clock, the 3rd and 4th quarters went by very quickly. Coach Swartout subbed out most of his starters out by the middle of the 3rd quarter and let the younger players finish out the game to get some valuable post-season playing time.
Kya Stewart would finish the game with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her 9th double-double of the season. Brooklynn Lucht would finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Madison Dunbar would pitch in 10 points as well.
With this win, the Cruisers secured the #7 seed into the West Central District 3 playoffs. They will take on the #5 seed Orting Cardinals on Wednesday February 12th at 7:00 pm at Orting High School.
The winner of that game will move on to play the #1 seeded Port Angeles Roughriders out of the Olympic League on Friday February 14th.
The loser of the game will drop down into the loser’s portion of the double elimination tournament and their opponent will be determined after all first round games are completed.
The Lady Cruisers encourage everyone to come support them against Orting. They would like for Eatonville to take over the Cardinal gym for this important playoff game.
