Cruisers Receive All-League Recognition
The 2019-2020 Eatonville High School winter sports teams had some successes this season.
We watched as the girls basketball team advanced to the district playoffs and came one win away from moving on to the regional rounds of state tournament, the boys basketball team had their struggles this season in a very competitive league but saw some bright spots with some of their young talent that will propel them in the years to come, and the wrestling team had an outstanding season that sent 8 wrestlers to the state tournament where 4 of them all placed within the top 7.
With all their hard work, dedication, and success comes the rewards. Rewards in the form of SPSL 2A All-League recognition.
The Cruisers had 12 athletes and 2 coaches receive all-league recognition this season from the SPSL.
Eatonville had six 1st team selections, four 2nd team selections, two honorable mentions, and two coaches of the year.
Kya Stewart earned a 1st team nod in Girls’ Basketball while Hailey Rath received a 2nd team nod. I may be biased, but I feel they both should have received 1st team recognition. With White River having such a great group of athletes, they had 5 players receive the top awards, leaving not much room for any other school’s athletes to receive the 1st team award. For the third year in a row, senior Brooklynn Lucht finds herself on the all-league list. She picked up an honorable mention nod for her play this season. All her hard work in the paint pulling down 195 rebounds for the Cruisers and leading the team with a 45% field goal percentage this season helped her land the accolade. Both Kya and Hailey were sophomores this season, so look for them to be on this list again next year.
Reilly McIlraith received 2nd team recognition for Boys’ Basketball and Kyle Cox picked up an honorable mention. Both players have a few more years in the program and should be back a top this list again.
Girls Wrestling saw both of their state placers pick up awards. Both Kayla Trujillo and Sadie Schier were given 1st team all-league accolades. Schier should be back on this list again next year as a junior.
Boys Wrestling saw the most league awards for the Cruisers with 7. Austin Frink, Hunter Sonnenberg, and Julian Evans all were awarded 1st team all-league. Ty Whitney, and Mason Vasquez received 2nd team nods. Coach Mario Ragazzo was named the Co-Coach of the Year. Sharing the honor with Jody Coleman of Orting. Coach Marc Olsen was named the Middle School Coach of the Year for his great work in helping lead the Eatonville Warriors to the Seamount League title this season.
