Bulldogs Sweep Cruisers
The Eatonville Cruiser baseball team had a rough week last week, dropping all three games of their 3-game series to the first place Montesano Bulldogs.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs hosted the Cruisers at Vessey Field in Hoquiam for a double-header.
In the first game, the Cruisers would strike first in the top of the first inning when Payton Hanly drove in Jakob Lucht on a single to right field to give the Cruisers the lead at 1-0.
The Bulldogs answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with 3 runs of their own to take a 3-1 lead, a lead that they would not relinquish and take the eventual win 8-3.
The Cruisers would muster only four hits in the game. Those hits would come from Brandon Storm, Jakob Lucht, Payton Hanly, and Riley Storm.
In the second game of the double-header, the Cruisers once again would strike first and score two runs in the first inning. After Brandon Storm hit a double to right field, Blain Hanly would drive him in on a single to center to give the Cruisers a 1-0 lead. Ashton Meyer would then reach base on an error by the shortstop advancing Hanly to third base. Payton Hanly would then lay down a bunt to score his brother to give the Cruisers a 2-0 lead, a lead they would not be able to hold onto as the Bulldogs would score six runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth, and five more in the sixth.
The Cruisers would push across two more runs in the fourth inning, but it would not be enough as they fell 12-4.
Brandon Storm led the Cruisers with two hits on the day, going 2-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored.
Looking to avenge their losses in the first two games of the 3 game series, the Cruisers were scheduled to play the game at home, but mother nature had other ideas and the Cruiser's field was unplayable so the game was moved to Montesano.
The Bulldogs would jump on Eatonville early scoring eight runs in the second inning and never look back.
Eatonville would score their only run of the game in the third inning. After Lucht doubled, Blain Hanly drew a walk, and then Ashton Meyer was hit by a pitch, Payton Hanly drew a four-pitch walk to bring Lucht in.
Montesano would go on to score six more runs and defeat the Cruisers in 5 innings, 14-1.
Jakob Lucht and Blain Hanly would be the only Cruisers to pick up hits in the game.
Eatonville's record now sits at 3-6 in league play and 7-9 overall. The Cruisers will need to sweep the upcoming 3-game series against Hoquiam to lock up the 4th and final spot into the district playoffs.
The Cruisers will host Hoquiam on Tuesday in a double-header at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm before traveling to Hoquiam to finish off their 3-game series at the historic Olympic Stadium with the fits pitch scheduled for 5:00 pm.
