Cruiser Baseball Has Rough Week

Jakob Lucht ready to swing and pick up a hit against the Orting Cardinals.

The Cruiser baseball team had a rough go last week dropping all three of their games to fall to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in league play.

They would start out the week by hosting the Ordinal Cardinals. The last time the two teams met, the Cruisers pulled off a 7-2 win over their rivals.

Well this time, the Cardinals got pay back by taking down the Cruisers 20-5.

Junior Ashton Meyer picked up two hits in the game for the Cruisers.

The Cruisers would look to bounce back from that loss when they took on the Franklin Pierce Cardinals on Wednesday.

The Cardinals would avenge their earlier 15-7 loss by downing the Cruisers 9-8.

Eatonville would lose the lead late in the game after leading 8-5.

Ashton Meyer would drive in 4 runs for the Cruisers while going 3-5 at the plate. He would hit a single, double, and triple in the game. He was only a home run away from hitting for the cycle. In baseball, hitting for the cycle is the accomplishment of one batter hitting a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in the same game.

The Cruisers would finish out the week on Friday with a trip up to Enumclaw to take on the Enumclaw Hornets.

Eatonville was hoping to get a split in the series after dropping their earlier game 12-1, but the Hornets’ pitcher Ethan Thomas had other ideas.

Thomas would mow down the Cruisers with 9 strikeouts on his way to throwing a perfect game to pick up a 10-0 win in a mercy rule shortened game.

Thomas would strike out 9 of the 15 batters he faced, allowing zero runs and zero walks.

Next up: The Cruisers will take on the Steilacoom Sentinels on Wednesday and finish the week hosting the Foss Falcons.
