Cruiser Baseball Faces Tough Week with Three Consecutive Losses
In a challenging week for the Eatonville Cruiser baseball team as they went winless in all three of their games, dropping their season record to 1-6.
The first defeat unfolded on Tuesday, March 26, as the Cruisers endured a 4-3 loss against the Elma Eagles after nine hard-fought innings. Despite a spirited effort, highlighted by late-game rallies, the Cruisers ultimately fell short. Notable performances included Owen Archer's 2-5 batting with 1 RBI and a stolen base, Ethan Evans' 2-3 with a double and 1 run scored, and Will Sepich's 2-4 hitting. Pitcher Payton Hanly's commendable 7 innings on the mound, marked by 13 strikeouts, unfortunately couldn't salvage the game. Owen Archer was handed the loss, yielding 1 run on 2 hits in his two innings of pitching.
Thursday, March 28, proved to be equally challenging as the Cruisers faced a doubleheader against the Tenino Beavers. In the first game, a sobering 18-3 loss ensued, plagued by four costly errors. Despite efforts to respond, including Aaron Tozier and Brody Thirtyacre's offensive contributions, the Cruisers couldn't stem the Beavers' relentless attack. Colton Herbrand's start on the mound was marred by nine runs over two innings, leading to the eventual mercy rule-shortened loss.
The second game of the doubleheader offered no respite, with the Tenino Beavers again dominating proceedings in a resounding 13-0 victory. Michael Stogsdill's lone bright spot, a 2-3 hitting performance with a double, couldn't lift the Cruisers out of their slump. Pitcher Aaron Leiter's efforts fell short, with relief pitchers Brody Thirtyacre and Aaron Tozier unable to stave off the Beavers' offensive onslaught.
The consecutive losses extend the Cruisers' losing streak to six games, underscoring the team's current struggles. Looking ahead, they aim to reverse their fortunes when they face the 1-8 Lake Lancers on Tuesday, April 2, with hopes of sparking a much-needed turnaround.
