The Eatonville High School baseball team would pick up a pair of wins last week to conclude their 2021 season on a 2 game win streak.

On Wednesday, they would host their longtime rivals, the Orting Cardinals. This would be the rubber match game for the 2 schools with Eatonville winning the first meeting 7-2 and the Cardinals taking the win in the second meeting, 20-5.

The Cruisers would get on the board first in the 4th inning when Jakob Lucht drove in Blain Hanly. The Cruisers would score 4 runs that inning on their way to a 10-0 mercy ruled shortened 5 inning game.

Lucht would go on to drive in 3 Cruiser base runners in the game.

Freshman Riley Storm would lead the Cruisers at the plate with 2 hits.

Junior Ashton Meyer would go the distance for the Cruisers and pick up the win. Meyer would allow only 2 Cardinals hits while striking out a season high 8 batters while only walking 2.

The Cruisers would finish out their season with a trip to Tacoma to take on the Foss Falcons. The Cruisers would walk away with a 16-1 blowout victory.

Skylar Sarpy would get credited with the win on the mound. The right hander went two innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and walking zero batters. Sarpy, along with 5 other Cruiser pitchers, would combine to allow only 4 Falcon hits on the day while striking out a total off 11.

At the plate, Blain Hanly would lead the Cruiser with 2 hits, while EJ McMains would drive in 3 to lead the team in RBI.

On the season, Blain Hanly would lead the Cruisers in batting average (.441), hits (15), runs scored (18), walks (15), total bases (21), slugging percentage (.617) and on base percentage (.627). Blain’s season On Base Percentage of .627 was a new single season Cruiser record.

On the mound for the Cruisers, Payton Hanly would lead the team in wins (3) and strike outs (19).

With the team only losing one senior this year, next year’s squad will look to improve on this season’s 7-7 record as they move into the 1A Evergreen league.

Head Coach Mike Moeller was really happy with how the shortened season turned out.

“I was really happy with how we progressed this year, it was really tough coming into the season and having only 5 days to prepare before the first game after missing an entire season in 2020. I am just thankful that we got to play and be back on the field. Even though it was a shortened season, I feel we made some big strides forward in our player development and I am excited about where we are at heading into next year. We have some wonderful kids on this team and it was just a joy to be back on the field with these boys this season. Look forward to getting back on the field with this group in 2021”.
