Cruiser Boys and Girls Wrestling Prepare For League Tournament
As the Eatonville High School wrestling team closes out its regular season and moves into the postseason, they are preparing for the Evergreen Conference league tournament. It's going to be a tough few weeks of competition, but the team is up for the challenge.
Placing in the next few tournaments will be crucial in determining who will make it to represent Eatonville High School in the next tournament, which is the regionals, and then the State tournament. The State tournament is a two-day event held at the Tacoma Dome on February 17th and 18th.
The Evergreen Conference tournament will be held here in Eatonville at Eatonville High School on February 4th. A total of four other teams will compete alongside Eatonville. Those teams are Tenino, Elma, Hoquiam, and Montesano. They will all compete in an 8-man bracket to determine who will move on to the next tournament.
The top four placers with a 5th alternate will move forward to regionals the following weekend at Castle Rock.
The boys' wrestling team took second place in Montesano on January 28 and that helped with their seeding for the league tournament. Carsen Pero (285lb) went 4 and 0, Kasey Whitney (138lb) went 4 and 0, Riley McFadden (132lb) went 3 and 1, and Payton Hughey (115lb) went 3 and 1. There are a total of 12 boys wrestlers that will compete at the conference tournament.
The Eatonville girls' wrestling team has been pushing its way through the season with only two girls on the team. Junior Brooke Ostendorf and sophomore Ashlynn Kistenmacher who went 3-1 at the Montesano meet.
The conference tournament for the two girls will be held on February 4 in Hoquiam with 19 schools and a 16-women bracket. Just like the boys, only the top 4 placers with a 5th alternate will advance to regionals the following weekend.
