Eatonville Cruiser Wrestlers Triumph and Tackle Challenges in Weekend Tournaments

In a weekend filled with intense competition, the Eatonville Cruiser wrestling team showcased their skills at two prominent tournaments. At the Tri State 2023 Tournament held at North Idaho College, the boys faced formidable opponents, with standout performances and challenging encounters. Meanwhile, at the Rogers Holiday Tournament at Rogers High School in Puyallup, the team displayed resilience and determination, earning notable placements.


Additionally, the girls participated in the Lady Mountaineers Invitational at Rainier High School, with Brooke Ostendorf and Lauryn Stockton achieving commendable placements.

BOYS – Tri State 2023 Tournament at North Idaho College


132 LB – Kasey Whitney: After receiving a bye in the first round, Whitney defeated Othello’s Adriel Flores before falling to the eventual tournament champion, Mead’s Josh Neiwert. This loss dropped Whitney into the consolation bracket, where he lost to Anacortes’s Talin Kerr, eliminating him from the tournament.


160 LB Jacob Ostendorf: Ostendorf defeated Gonzaga Prep’s Harrison Crooks in the first round but fell in the second round to Post Falls’ Trey Smith. After two straight victories in the consolation rounds, Ostendorf was eliminated by Brett Myers from Coeur d’Alene.


160 LB Trey Sta Rosa: After defeating Richland’s Preston Richins in the first round, Sta Rosa was pinned by Arlington’s Dustin Baxter. He then won against Gonzaga Prep’s Harrison Crooks before being eliminated by Coeur d’Alene’s Gabe Larson.


170 LB – Ethan Rogers: Rogers dropped his opening round match when Mt. Spokane’s Tyler Soehner pinned him. In the consolation round, Rogers received a bye and moved on to face Mead’s Ethan Harvey, who pinned and eliminated him.

106 LB - Cooper Wood: Wood secured a 4th place finish, receiving a bye in the first round and winning by fall in the quarterfinal. He fell to Jaxon Love in the semifinal but rebounded to win the consolation semifinals.  In the 3rd place match, Wood was defeated by Jasper Lawrence Feduff.


106 LB – Bryan Boers: Boers secured a 5th place finish, with a bye in the first round and a tech fall loss in the quarterfinal. After receiving a bye in round 2 of the consolation bracket, Boers won by decision before losing to Cooper Wood in the cons. semi. He secured 5th place via injury default.


120 LB – Ryder McFadden: McFadden secured a 4th place finish, with a fall loss in round 1. In the consolation rounds, he won two matches by decision and one by medical forfeit before losing to Jonathan Finnestad in the 3rd place match.


138 LB Payton Hughey: Hughey secured a 6th place finish, winning his first match by fall but losing in the quarterfinal. He won two matches in the consolations before falling in the semifinals and finishing 6th in the 5th place match.


144 LB Cody Taylor: Taylor secured a 6th place finish, winning his first two matches by fall but losing in the semifinal. He fell in the consolation semifinals and took 6th place via forfeit in the 5th place match.


GIRLS – Lady Mountaineers Invitational @ Rainier High School


Brooke Ostendorf: Fresh off her 2nd place finish at the Safeway Buckle Classic in Oregon, Ostendorf took home another 2nd place finish in the 140 LB class. Eatonville’s Lauryn Stockton secured 4th place in the same class.


Next Up: The girls will compete in the 2023 Grizzly Stocking Stuffer tournament at Hoquiam High School on Dec. 20th, while the boys will head to Ridgefield, WA, for the Pac Coast tournament at the Clark County Fairgrounds event center on Dec. 21 – 22.
