Olivia White Breaks School Records
The Eatonville Cruiser swim team split their two contests last week by defeating the Clover Park Warriors and then dropping their meet against the Enumclaw Hornets.
The Cruisers down the Warriors by a score of 129-16 while falling to the Hornets 103-66.
Against the Warriors, junior swimmer Olivia White set a new Eatonville school record in the 200 Meter IM with a time of 2:26.83. Breaking the previous mark of 2:27.06 set in 2015 by Jayla Thirtyacre.
The previous week White set another school record when she took down Jill Rawson’s time of 1:16.23 from 1999 by recording a time of 1:16.03.
Against Enumclaw, White almost set the school record in the 50M Freestyle event. She missed breaking that record by .23 hundredths of a second. So close! I think before the season ends that record will fall.
I asked Head Coach Andrea Stammen about White’s accomplishments this season and she had great things to say about her,
“Olivia is new to our school and team this year. Her experience in competitive swimming has been a great benefit to our team, and her speed has already led her to break two school records in this short season. As a coach I really appreciate Olivia's hard work, dedication, and her ability to lead by example as well as her willingness to teach others. We look forward to seeing all of the great things Olivia will accomplish in our last couple of meets this season, next season, as well as in her future.”
In regards to the team, Stammen went on to say,
“Our team overall is very new this year, with 9 new members, and 9 returning members. Led by our "dream team" of captains (Sadie Schier, Alyssa Woodberry, and Rylee Valentine), the swim team has surpassed previous years in their readiness to compete, despite their newness to competitive swimming. The team is closely bonded and supportive of each other, and their team spirit can't be beat. I am incredibly proud of how much our team has achieved in this difficult year, and short sports season. We have some exciting races and close competition coming up in our last two meets this week!”
The Cruisers will finish up their regular season schedule next week when they host Franklin Pierce and Fife both at Eatonville HS.
With the uncertainty this sports season has brought, they are unsure at this point if there will be any type of post season meets.
