Turnovers Plague Cruisers In Season Opener
The Eatonville Cruisers faced some challenges in their quest to give first-year Head Coach Rex Norris his debut victory, as they took on the Olympic Trojans in an exciting non-league showdown to kick off the 2023 football season. Despite the final score of 49-16 in favor of the Trojans, there were some positive moments to highlight.
Although the Cruisers experienced six turnovers on the night, it's worth noting that the Trojans managed to turn only three of those into points, showcasing the Cruisers' resilience on defense.
Eatonville's first scoring drive was an impressive 65-yard march down the field, featuring a clever fake punt. In a thrilling finish to the first half, quarterback Hunter Klumpar skillfully evaded the Trojan defense, connecting with the wide-open Ky Nation for a 33-yard touchdown pass. To top it off, the two-point conversion attempt was hauled in by Michael Stogsdill making it successful, adding to the team's momentum.

The Cruisers didn't stop there. In the late stages of the fourth quarter, freshman quarterback Cole Fowler found sophomore Colton Herbrand for a 2-yard touchdown pass, once again converting the two-point attempt. This time it was Riley Storm hauling in the pass on the conversion. These moments showcased the team's determination and potential.
While turnovers posed a challenge, the Cruisers also faced difficulties in the trenches against the Trojans' imposing size. This affected their running game and put pressure on their passing game. Despite these obstacles, running back Dylan Norman managed to gain 42 yards on 10 carries, and quarterback Hunter Klumpar displayed resilience under pressure, passing for 119 yards while completing 11 of his 26 attempts.
Looking ahead, the Cruisers have a quick turnaround to regroup and prepare for their home opener against Centralia on Thursday, September 7th, at 7 p.m. With their potential and determination, they have a chance to bounce back and showcase their strength on the field.
